When it is on (the default), our page can use the country and time zone worked out from your connection to set the clock and show a scene for your country. When you turn it off, we stop doing that: our server no longer reads or adds your country and time zone, the page shows a neutral scene, and the clock follows your own device. Turning it off places one small cookie (see "Cookies" below). Turning it back on removes it. You do not have to give a reason.

What. When you open a page, our content-delivery provider (Cloudflare) receives your IP address, as it does for every request to any website, and derives coarse values from it. Our server reads only two of them: your country and your time zone. Nothing more is taken from it: not your IP address, city, region or coordinates.

Why. To show a page that fits where and when you are: the clock and the light or dark look follow the local time, and the picture follows your country. It is a design feature, nothing else. We do not use it to identify you, decide anything about you, or profile you.

Which time zone counts. If we receive a time zone from your connection, the clock follows it. If we do not, the clock follows your device. If your device and your connection disagree (for example because you use a VPN or are travelling), the clock follows the connection and the page shows its neutral scene instead of a country scene.

Legal basis. Our legitimate interest in presenting a page that fits the visitor (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR). We weighed that interest against your rights in a written assessment. Because the benefit is small, we honour your objection (above) without asking for reasons.

How long. We do not store these values or write them in a log. They are placed on the page sent back to you and exist in your browser while the page is open. Pages that carry them are marked so that nobody else's cache can reuse them. Cloudflare, as our service provider, handles requests to our website and keeps its own technical records for operating and securing its network; we do not control those and do not use them for this feature.

Your device's time zone is read inside your browser and is never sent to us.

Nothing else is collected. No account, no form, no analytics, no advertising identifier.

We store two settings in your browser's local storage, and only when you choose them:

They stay on your device, are not sent to us, and are used only to remember what you asked for. You can delete them in your browser settings at any time. Light or Dark changes how the page looks; it does not stop the location feature above. Use the switch for that.

By default this site sets no cookies. If you turn "Adapt this page to my location" off, we place one cookie, onepct_geo, with the value off, for up to 12 months. It applies to 1pct.eu and its subdomains. It contains no identifier and no other information. It is sent to our server with each request only so that the server knows not to add your country and time zone. It is placed at your request and used for nothing else. Turning the switch back on removes it. If you block cookies, the switch cannot be remembered; the page then keeps working normally and you can write to us.

The footer links to our profiles on Instagram and X. They are plain links: nothing from those services is loaded on our pages. When you follow a link you leave 1pct.eu and that service's own privacy policy applies.

Our service provider for this website: Cloudflare (hosting and delivery). Authorities, where the law requires it. Cloudflare is based in the United States. Transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, under which Cloudflare is certified, and on the Standard Contractual Clauses in Cloudflare's data processing agreement, which is part of our contract with Cloudflare.

You have the right to ask for access to your data, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object. Because we do not store the country and time zone, there is nothing to look up for them; to stop them, use the switch above. For anything else, email us. We answer within one month. If we cannot identify you from your request, we will tell you.

You may withdraw any consent you gave, at any time. We ask for none on this site at present.

Providing data is never required to read this site. We make no automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

You may complain to a data protection authority, in particular the one in the EU country where you live or work or where you think the law was broken. In Portugal that is the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt).

We update this page when the site changes what it does with data, and we change the date at the top.
